Café Prückel
Stubenring 24
(I. Bezirk)

The Prückel is situated on the Ring opposite the top left corner of the Stadtpark.

(excellent website in German)

Opened in 1905, the Prückel was modernised after the war and the decor now has the faded elegance of the 1950s - a large clock, chandelier, fixtures and fittings which always remind me of being on board a ship, and very high ceilings.

The coffee and food are good - the tables have formica tops, but they'll lay a starched white tablecloth if you order a meal.

In the evenings there are sometimes poetry recitals and piano music.

Is this the best café in Vienna? IMHO Yes! It's the whole effect and ambience - not for everyone perhaps, but I love it!
